Stewardship

Stewardship at Saint Thomas is the act of giving of time, talents, and financial resources in support of day-to-day operations of the parish and the work of the faith community. There are various ways you can participate:

2 you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket and go to the place that the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his name.Deuteronomy 26:2

Annual Stewardship “Pledge” Drive: Each year we affirm our individual or family’s financial committment of support to the faith community. Pledges can be done directly or anonymously, the purpose of which, is to give our financial officers and lay leaders greater visibility in planning annual programs, operations expenses, and employment committments to clergy and staff. We approach stewardship with the upmost care and respect. Each year, we hold a meeting and luncheon for the entire parish to review the annual budget for the upcoming year. As managers of the community’s resources, it is important that we openly share what we do with everyone.

Capital Campaign: From time to time we hold a capital campaign to plan for capital improvements. In the past, we have raised funds for additions like the “Wendy M. Smith, PhD” Educational Building and expanding the kitchen and restrooms to accomodate Our Daily Bread diners. These typically take place every 5 to 10 years.

Special Fundraisers: Every year the talented bakers, jam and chutney makers, quilters, artists, photographers and a whole host of dedicated individuals and groups bring out their latest creations to the Christmas Boutique. Monetary donations are accepted for each item in support of parish groups and ministries.

Christmas and Easter Offerings: Lay leaders typically select a local and international organization for a special offering. A few of the organizations we’ve supported in the past include: Sunnyvale Community Services, Santa Maria Urban Mission and Episcopal Relief and Development.

Offerings: On the occasion or birthdays and anniversaries, we receive a blessing and offer a token gift to the Rector.

eScrip: Sign up for the eScrip program – have contributions made to Saint Thomas whenever you shop at one of the participating merchants and restaurants, including Safeway. The good news is that it’s free to you. The participating merchants and restaurants provide the contributions. AmazonSmile is another creative way to give.

  2. AmazonSmile is the same Amazon, same products, same prices and same service.
  3. Support us by starting your shopping at smile.amazon.com.

As with any form of giving, it is a gift without any strings attached or an expectation placed on the person or family. It is our response to God’s invitation for us to participate in a real and practical way in the work and life of Saint Thomas.
