Sharing Their Blessings!

Flo Oy Wong, noted Sunnyvale artist , and her husband Ed visited St. Thomas, on 11/25/2003, to make a $1000 donation to ODB. The donation, in the form of a $1000 gift check to P&W Super Market, was a prize that they had won from Silicon Valley Homes magazine for a competition to select a top kitchen design and how the owners had influenced that design. The Wongs had recently completed a remodeling of their home, and they were so pleased with the results that they decided to enter when they heard about the contest. To their surprise, they won the competition and received the gift check as a prize. They reflected on their good fortune and decided that they should share their blessings by donating the prize to a worthy cause. They had heard about the "Our Daily Bread" program and its committment to help feed hungry people in the Sunnyvale area, and they felt that the gift check would be put to good use there. To assure themselves that the gift check can be reassigned, they contacted the general manager of the local P&W Super Market and inquired about that possibility and what arrangements needed to be done.

With all bases covered, they made an appointment with the Reverend Wendy Smith to present her with the check and discuss arrangements for the transfer. On the day of the appointment, Bambi and a crew of volunteers happened to be in the kitchen making preparations for the big Thanksgiving meal that was to be served the next day. So Wendy invited Ed and Flo to go over to the kitchen and present the check to Bambi directly. The pictures on the right shows Bambi's elated reaction when she received the check. Then Bambi immediatly passed the good news along to the crew of volunteers who were also very thrilled. This generous act by Ed and Flo should serve as an inspiration to all of us to 'count and share our blessings' with those who are less fortunate.
