Relative to commending

Joe Gutierrez

Whereas, the City of Sunnyvale has selected Joe Gutierrez, a distinguished area resident, as the recipient for its Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award for 2001 in recognition of the vital role he has played in improving the quality of life in the local community and upon this occasion he is deserving of special honors and highest commendations; and

Whereas, Renowned for his enthusiastic and tireless efforts on behalf of the Orchard Heritage Park Project; Joe Gutierrez’s work on this project dates back to 1989 when as a member of the Historical Society Board, he spearheaded an effort to save a piece of fast-disappearing orchard acreage in the local area, and he became a leader of the Orchard Heritage Task force, and

Whereas, In 1992, through the efforts of Joe and others, the city dedicated a ten-acre apricot orchard as Orchard Heritage Park, Joe designed and built a concept model for an open air living museum and obtained city approval for the project in 1994, and he then led the task of raising funds to make the project reality; and

Whereas, Joe’s contributions to the people of Sunnyvale will enrich the lives of area residents for may years to come, and

Whereas, Throughout it history, California has been blessed with citizens who possess great public spirit, who in addition to their daily pursuits have taken keen interest in local affairs, and Joe Gutierrez has participated in numerous community enterprises with evidence of lasting contribution to his community and state; now therefore, be it

Resolved by Assembly Member Elaine K. Alquist, that Joe Gutierrez be congratulated on his selection by the city of Sunnyvale as the recipient of the Distinguished citizen of the Year Award for 2001, commended for his significant contributions to the people of the local community and beyond and extended sincere best wishes for success in the future.

"Outstanding Community Volunteer
of the Year 2001"

Jan Camp

Whereas, the City of Sunnyvale has selected Jan Camp, a distinguished area resident, as the recipient for its Outstanding Community Volunteer of the Year Award for 2001 in recognition of the vital role she has played in improving the quality of life in the local community and upon this occasions she is deserving of special honors and highest commendations; and

Whereas, The personification of community volunteerism, Jan Camp is the President of the Sunnyvale Historical Society, member of the FISH Board of directors, volunteer at Our Daily Bread and the Sunnyvale Community Service’s Christmas Store, a member of the OHPIE , and an active member of her church, and

Whereas, Jan’s work with the Historical Society is noteworthy, and she is committed to helping others remember their roots and maintains historical displays at five Sunnyvale schools; and

Whereas, Leading by doing, Jan sets a fine example for others and influences others to join her in working for the betterment of the community; and

Whereas, Throughout its history, California has been blessed with citizens who possess great public spirit, who in addition to their daily pursuits have taken a keen interest in local affairs, and Jan Camp has participated in numerous community enterprises with evidence of lasting contribution to his community and state; now therefore, be it

Resolved by Assembly Member Elaine K.
