Children’s Ministries

“Almighty God, heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of Our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.” – Book of Common Prayer, p. 829

sunday school (11 of 26)General Information

Sunday school is offered September through June to children ages 3 to 11 and childcare for little ones up to 4 years old in the Education Building, see Campus Map.

Instructions for Sunday School

Check-in is at 10:15 AM. To ensure the safety of our children, parents are required to register children on their first visit. Participating children are signed-in at the beginning of each session to record attendance.  Teachers will assist with registration and sign-ins upon arrival. Education Building doors will be locked 10 minutes after service begins. Personal identification is required for access and pick-up.

Sunday School Curricula

Each year we plan the curricula for the upcoming season. This year we are using felt board stories for the youngest children and a lectionary-based curriculum for the older children.

Children’s Chapels

Every first Sunday of the month from 9:30-10:15am, all families with children are invited to join Pr. Salying for Pr. Salying’s Super Awesome Fun Chapel with Surprisingly Serious Content.  The children spend time singing songs, accompanied by Pr. Salying’s ukulele, learn a lesson (a Godly Play story or how to live as a Christian), and pray.  Following the lesson, there is a children’s “Coffee Hour”, where they will have snacks.  The teacher then build a lesson for Sunday School on the lesson from Pr. Salying.

Other events

Throughout the year, there are many events for children and families.  For example, there is family camp, games nights, Christmas pageant, and the ingathering of canned foods for the needy.  There is also a Children’s Commission that works to foster a spirit of fellowship and learning among parents.  Please speak with Sue Beckham (children’s ministries coordinator) or Pr. Salying.

Summertime

sunday school (12 of 26)

During the summer, we have Vacation Bible School.  It is scheduled for various Sundays in the summer and with a theme.  Many of the activities are outdoor games to make learning fun.  For event schedule, see Parish Calendar.

We will take every opportunity to help your child feel welcome, have fun, and be engaged in learning.

Safeguarding God’s Children

All teachers, clergy, and staff are required to submit to a background check and receive mandatory Safeguarding God’s Children child abuse prevention training, as a part of the Diocesan mandated safe church guidelines.
